I have been on a liquid diet for 14 days now. From what I have read of others, a two week pre-op liquid diet is pretty typical for this type of surgery. Going into it, I thought I would hate it, but it hasn't been too bad. I buy Premiere Protein pre-made shakes from Costco and I also have some unflavored protein powder to add to various broths to make soups. I also rely heavily on my Magic Bullet, to blend ingredients up to make a variety of different shakes.
However, this last week was the hardest because I had day-long meetings at work almost every day, and a client dinner to get through. Each meeting had lunch catered in. I didn't really crave the lunches, but also didn't want to draw attention to myself not participating and just drinking protein shakes. But, no one asked why I wasn't eating, so that was good. My colleagues all know about my surgery, so that made it easier. As for the client dinner, I lucked out that the restaurant was serving a homemade cauliflower bisque as the soup of the day. So, I said no to the pile of appetizers circulating the table and waited for soup as the main course. It was well worth the wait as it was the most delicious soup I had ever had!
Surgery Prep
Yesterday, I made sure I had all of the things people say to have ready post-surgery. Most I have had ready for a while, but it's always nice to double-check.
- Heating pad (for shoulder gas pain)
- Gas-X Strips (for shoulder gas pain)
- Liquid Tylenol (in hopes I don't need narcotic pain meds)
- Filled narcotic prescription (just in case Tylenol isn't enough)
- Stock pile of Broth and Protein Shakes
- A ride there, and a ride home
- Pillow for the ride back
- Robe to walk around in after immediately after surgery
- Took the whole week off from work to recover
I am excited and nervous and just praying everything goes well!
