Day 15: Well my intense itching is not just normal healing. I am having an allergic reaction to the Dermabond. I spoke to my surgeon yesterday and he said I could put Cortizone on it. I have cleaned off all the Dermabond. My incisions are healing nicely, but all around them is covered in little red bumps. It is intensely itchy and painful. I have read on other blogs and forums that others have had a similar reaction. My first follow up will be Thursday. If it has not cleared up by then, I will ask for a stronger prescription ointment. This so far, is the worst part of the surgery! Look at these photos to see what I mean.

Thanks for posting. I started to have incisions itch about 4 days post op and by 7 days post op was very itchy, at which point I removed all remaining dermabond just in case. After seeing your pictures I think I made the right call. So far the only thing that will reduce itching to a tolerable level is 20-30 minutes of ice, cortisol does not do much.

I had the same reaction after Gallbladder surgery last month. I told the Surgeon that I had a reaction 9 years earlier when I had my tubes tied but he said "No one's allergic to Dermabond". Yeah right, when I woke in recovery he was trying to peel it off saying "You have very sensitive skin". A layer was left behind on all four incisions resulting in having to take antibiotics for two week. The sites were inflamed, itched like crazy and oozed. Live and learn :)

I had back surgery 5/10. The surgeons had wanted a titanium plate with titanium screws. Told the first 2 no way- I’m moderately sensitive to Titanium. ( I even have the hair follicle test results that say I’m sensitive). This was surgeon #3. Promised to just go in and clean out the vertebrae. I wake up and pain is worse than usual but tolerable. In the morning the burning and itching started and just got worse. That is when I see they put dermabond in me. I have had almost 2 weeks of burn and itch and I am furious. WHY would any MD put a product in - that they can see has a track record of allergies!!!! I have been using ice, showers and allergy pills with little relief
